I do apologize - it has been quite awhile since I have updated the blog portion of my page! As you can see, things have changed quite a bit around here since I last posted. Where to begin?
For one thing, I finally took a giant leap of faith and quit my corporate job in the health care sector this past month. It came as a shock to many -- especially having invested thousands of dollars into my education over the course of 4 years and then practicing for nearly eight. It was no small decision, and I still get goosebumps thinking about it. However, after putting in my official resignation, I felt a wave of relief sweep over me. Although the job I have now is admittedly much more stressful and the pressure is definitely on to keep things going, I feel so grateful to be able to wake up everyday and do what truly makes my heart sing!
I am also thankful that you all have been so receptive to my handful of collections over the past few years! My ability to design and release was limited to the time I had after work and household/Mommy duties. Thanks so much for sticking with me! I wanted to do so much more earlier, but just didn't have the time or resources.
Being able to focus full time on the business has really opened up the floodgates of creativity! The washi pictured is actually NOT new - but it does have a new twist in that it has been paired with 3 other sister washis and packaged in a gorgeous foiled box, perfect for gifting! With the holidays approaching, I felt like this was a nice touch - hope you guys like it too! If you want to see all my new release, feel free to visit my Etsy shop under the new washi tab!
As you may have heard, I am gearing up to launch a new website in late October complete with a referral program, customer rewards, and more! I feel like this has been a long time in the making and I am THRILLED to see the pieces slowly falling into place.
Also, I am anticipating the first official launch of my membership/subscription service! (Box is a bit of a misnomer as the goodies will come lovingly packaged in a foil envelope!) You can find more information on the subscription page -- I feel like a lot of you will enjoy the perks, the 'double dip' program I intend to launch with it, and best of all, the lovingly designed sets I have paired together complete with super fun, beautiful, and functional foiled stickers!
Speaking of STICKERS and NEW -- expect to see a few foiled beauties popping into the shop in November -- having grown up on stickers, this is literally a dream come true and I am giddy beyond belief to share them with you all!
As you can see, that's a lot of NEW! Thanks for sticking with me (no pun intended!) and I can't wait to see everything take flight!
I'm proud to present my very first design - mermaid tail! I grew up on Disney movies, and The Little Mermaid was one of my all-time favorites as a child. Granted, today, the mere thought of my future 16 year old daughter running away to be with somebody she spotted once from afar is just plain terrifying, I can still appreciate the movie for what it was at the time.
My original mermaid washi concept involved my hand painted rendition with under-the sea coloration in beautiful shades of deep aquamarine and deep-sea green - I thought the contrast against gold foil scales would be gorgeous:
I searched and searched in vain for a company that was able to produce the complexity of the design. I was told over and over again that this type of printing on washi tape and foil was just not possible with current printing equipment. After what seemed like the billionth email, I decided I needed to regroup and go with plan B. Despite my disappointment, I was thrilled with the beautiful turqouise green color I chose instead. You MUST see this washi in person to fully appreciate how lovely the color truly is -- especially when applied. It literally Pops!
I'm not giving up on my dream of watercolor foil washi just yet - but in the meantime, I am pretty happy with the bright and happy mermaid tail washi that will be available for purchase on December 17th -- this Thursday!!!
My daughter just turned one this past weekend - but her party is actually planned for January once the bustle of the holidays is all wrapped up. This mermaid washi tape will be sealing envelopes and serving as little toothpick banners for her "Shimmer mermaid" themed party. (I have been hoarding iridescent easter grass, and sea themed items since the party's original inception a few weeks after her birth) I'll be sure to share all the little details come January. :)
Hope you all 'just keep swimming' through this week!
Hi all and welcome to the simply gilded blog!
First of all - thanks for visiting! It means so much that you are here supporting my dream and sharing in my passion for all the small things that make life just a little more beautiful.
My name is Irene and I am the one-woman operation behind the company. It has been pretty crazy juggling my family of 2 little ones (Jacob, 3, and Lillian, 1 this coming Sunday!) and a full time job, but I mean this in the most honest of ways - the idea of designing one-of-a-kind washi tape truly excites me and sparks this insatiable passion in my soul! No joke.
I've forever been a scrapbooker, sticker collector, and perpetual list maker. I love making hand-made cards - what better way to incorporate my love of art, fantasy, and design than to literally roll it all into one! I seriously use washi tape on everything - to decorate my planner and lists, to tape notes to the door for the postman, to seal invitations, to create pretty borders in my scrapbook etc.
I have never been a risk taker in life and have forever been terrified by rejection - so I set my artistic brain and my dreams and aspirations of starting a creative business aside for years. However, I'm so glad I took a leap of faith to start this company and to share what I have created with all of you. It is when I am in my creative space that I feel so joyful and alive! I hope that you too will be inspired to follow your dreams or at the very least, carve out space and time to nourish your creative self.
Thank you for joining me on the exciting journey ahead - looking forward to making memories with you all!
