I'm proud to present my very first design - mermaid tail! I grew up on Disney movies, and The Little Mermaid was one of my all-time favorites as a child. Granted, today, the mere thought of my future 16 year old daughter running away to be with somebody she spotted once from afar is just plain terrifying, I can still appreciate the movie for what it was at the time.
My original mermaid washi concept involved my hand painted rendition with under-the sea coloration in beautiful shades of deep aquamarine and deep-sea green - I thought the contrast against gold foil scales would be gorgeous:
I searched and searched in vain for a company that was able to produce the complexity of the design. I was told over and over again that this type of printing on washi tape and foil was just not possible with current printing equipment. After what seemed like the billionth email, I decided I needed to regroup and go with plan B. Despite my disappointment, I was thrilled with the beautiful turqouise green color I chose instead. You MUST see this washi in person to fully appreciate how lovely the color truly is -- especially when applied. It literally Pops!
I'm not giving up on my dream of watercolor foil washi just yet - but in the meantime, I am pretty happy with the bright and happy mermaid tail washi that will be available for purchase on December 17th -- this Thursday!!!
My daughter just turned one this past weekend - but her party is actually planned for January once the bustle of the holidays is all wrapped up. This mermaid washi tape will be sealing envelopes and serving as little toothpick banners for her "Shimmer mermaid" themed party. (I have been hoarding iridescent easter grass, and sea themed items since the party's original inception a few weeks after her birth) I'll be sure to share all the little details come January. :)
Hope you all 'just keep swimming' through this week!
